October 6, 2012 | Offense too much for Syracuse
by Samuel Perley
Ethan Farrell and Ryan Hotaling each netted four goals apiece as the Copperhead offense overwhelmed the visiting Syracuse Stingers and tallied an 18-10 win at Bojangles’ Coliseum.
The Copperheads started off a bit lackluster before really cranking things up in the last three quarters. They assaulted the Syracuse defense and Stinger goaltender Ross Bucktooth with 76 total shots. The Stingers are looking to enter the PLL in 2013 as a potential expansion.
“It felt great to get our first win at home. The Stingers are a tough team with a lot of experience. Tory Stevens and the rest of the defense once again played lights out and we have so many offensive weapons in Farrell, Hotaling, Greg Rogowski and Matt Hickman you never know who’s gonna go off” said the the Copperheads’ Thomas Langan.
The Copperheads started out slow in the first quarter falling behind early 4-2 before rallying in the second quarter by outscoring the Stingers 7-1 to go into the half with a 9-5 lead.
Hotaling netted two goals in the third quarter to help push the lead to 13-8 by the start of the fourth. Matt Hickman and Farrell both netted goals a pair of goals each to help secure a comfortable victory at home against the Stingers.
Outside of Farrell and Hotaling, Hickman (3), Greg Rogowski (3), Kevin Iwanusa (1), Thomas Langan (1), Mike O’Brien (1) and Erik Holt (1) all netted goals for the Copperheads. Goaltender Tory Stevens collected the win in the net before being relieved in the fourth quarter by Matt LeBlanc.
Duane Porter led the Stingers with five goals.
The Copperheads return to Bojangles’ Coliseum this Friday, October 12 at 7:30 PM when they welcome the Reading Rockets to Charlotte. The Copperheads will also be hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Night and tickets are available at 704-817-9190.
